Abstract: This presentation describes the Software Supplier Management (SSM) role on a large Mission System Integrator (MSI) program from two perspectives: the job as described in the requisition, and the job as experienced by a real practitioner. We will look at the detailed responsibilities of the SSM to both the Program and the Supplier, including a glimpse at how the complexity of the job is aggravated when a Supplier has poor internal processes, weak technical systems and software skills, and a management chain that is overly guarded with information.  We will also look at the SSM Value Stream and highlight several key skills that an MSI SSM should develop quickly after taking the job to be most effective.
Biography: Mr. Struble is a Senior Software Technologist for the Raytheon North Texas Net-Centric Systems Software Engineering Center in McKinney, Texas.  He has been involved with design, implementation, or management of software systems for over 30 years spanning large government programs including the F-22 Raptor, F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, and Future Combat Systems.  For the last four years he has worked as a Software Supplier Manager for two large sensor subcontractors and is currently engaged in co-design of an end-to-end change management process for large Mission System Integrator programs.  Mr. Struble received his B.S. degree in mathematics and computer science from the University of Dayton where he served as adjunct assistant professor for six years, and an M.S. degree from Ohio State University in Computer and Information Sciences.
